It would be good to be able to insert a comment when deleting anything from the system. This information could then be captured on the system records. This will show to auditors why we are deleting records from our system.

Workflows (yes, i know we have been talking about this for ages) have already a functionality that versions objects and handles a concept of “trash” and records.
If you are not yet terrified about our videos, you can watch that one (4 minutes or so) where the feature is demonstrated. This feature is enabled on Third Party Audits.
